Too rainy to shoot? No problem.

A big trending topic amongst wedding photographers in Singapore: Where do you shoot when it’s raining?

It’s one of the scariest questions we face when our couples come to us after looking at the torrential forecast and start getting worried that they’ll get drenched or worse still, have to put off their planned pre-wedding shoot and having to wait out the rain for who knows how long.

Terence and Eugenia were in a similar situation just last Saturday. From what I heard, this was even the highest recorded rainfall in close to 40 years. What a horrid day to get out to get your wedding photoshoot right? Well, to be honest, even if it rains, I feel there are two options. We get out there and get wet, or we get inside to make great pictures anyway!

We were originally supposed to do two locations, one of them at Golden Mile Tower, where the rooftops boasted great sunsets and rustic views. With the rain, we decided to get in and explore the interior and were rewarded with artistically light-painted stairwells, old school corridors and the beautiful circular staircase below Projector, an indie movie theatre.

Shoots that seem like it can go bad can swing the other way when you have a few factors. The first, a fun and adventurous couple who’s willing to take risks and say “screw our old plan, we’ll go crazy.” The second, a good photographer who can adapt to changes and take the opportunity to challenge themselves to try new ways of shooting by experimenting angles and perspectives.

So, as I was saying, some things don’t always go to plan, and unplanned locations are one of them. so since Golden Mile Complex was an underpass away, we stole down and through from the Tower building to visit some iconically intimate spots at literally corners away from everyone’s favourite mookata spots.

Asking random questions and making jokes at the old letterboxes, staring out through the railings next to a large neon sign and even running through the office complex (shh don’t tell anyone we snuck in), we forgot it was even raining in the first place!

In the end, as the day wore down to a close, i’m almost even thankful it poured. Because without it, we wouldn’t be forced to innovate, adapt and overcome the situation to create even more unique frames that would otherwise have been cookiecutter-ish! I love my job :)
