Rain or Shine - WeatherOrNot

Over the decade of shooting. The single-most devastaing thing to see on a day of shoot is the weather forecast pointing all signs to rain, and the clouds begin to gather over your intended shoot spot.

In some cases, you bite the bullet, switch locations - head back home for a cosy shoot

Or find a quick backup indoor spot to hide away from the rain like we did back in 2011.

Having seen this scenario play out so many times, improvisation has become part of how I think when it comes to each shoot. Keep calm, think of an alternative or otherwise look to reshoot as the worst case scenario. I even remember rediverting a whole bridal party shoot to an underground carpark and it turned out pretty nice too!

In some cases, just to get THAT golden hour, I remember a couple and I postponed a shoot 4 times because of the rain, and finally deciding to just go for it anyway on the fifth regardless the forecast, only to be rewarded by the most golden of glows! Oh but what i’d do to be able to predict the quality of the golden hour!

Other times like these, i remember we also had couples who would say “Let’s just ROLL!”, decking themselves, boots on and braving the rain. Those were magic moments too!

But ultimately it got me thinking, what if I made a tool for everyone to be able to not just forecast the weather, but be able to tell the quality of the golden hour for the day? And that friends, is how I spent the better half of this year building an app that not just fellow creatives, but families and couples alike could use to predict and plan their shoot ahead. In fact, even anyone who just wants to know where to go to enjoy the golden hour gets to as well!

I hope this app helps you moving forward! I’ve got a few other apps built for some specific niches but beyond weddings and families, i’ve always believed that The Good Citizen has always been more than just pictures.
